1954-58  apprentice typographer at Art Institut Orell Füssli, Zürich

Studies at Kunstgewerbe­schule Zürich and Allgemeine Gewerbeschule Basel

1959-60  freelance designer/ Paris, France

1960-63  works for industry in London, UK

1961-64  receives three awards for excellence from the Swiss Department of the Interior

1963  relocates to Canada where he works for Paul Arthur & Associates and Expo 67

1966  opens his own practice in partnership with Stuart Ash

1975  serves as a juror of Spectrum 75, the Royal Canadian Academy Art Exhibition for the 1976 Olympic Games in Montréal

1976-78  establishes and develops the G+A New York City office in collaboration with Ken Carbone and Leslie Smolan (now Carbone Smolan Agency)

1979  returns to Zürich where he focuses on communication design, corporate identity and architectural graphics.

1980-82  Department Head, Visual Communication, Zürich University of the Arts

1982-89  operates G+A’s Milan office in collaboration with Walter Ballmer

1983-89  faculty member of the Kent Summer Graphic Design Workshop in Rapperswil, Switzerland

1985-91  Secretary Treasurer for AGI

1990-2000  member of Board of Directors, Graphis Publishing

1991-present  member of Board of Trustees, Coninx Museum, Zürich

Lecturer at Ohio State University, Kent State University, Washington University and Yale University

2008  Stuart Ash and Fritz Gottschalk receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Society of Graphic Designers 

Gottschalk+Ash today maintains offices in Toronto and Zürich
